I’ll once again teach a new installment of my Irish Music 101 Friday Sampler Class at the Milwaukee Irish Fest Summer School this August. In 2015, I’ll be playing notable and historic early Irish music recordings. My current plan is to take students through early wax cylinder recordings from the Dunn Family Collection and the Henebry Collection through some of the obscure LPs of the 1960s and 70s.
The majority of the recordings will be from the holdings at the Ward Irish Music Archives, and since the Summer School takes place at the Milwaukee Irish Fest Center this year, I’ll have the chance to play some of the actual original discs!
Besides spinning discs like some sort of historical MC, I’ll also be compiling a discography of important recordings that students can take home.
